Campervan routes: complete itineraries for your next trip
No two campervan routes are ever quite the same, but nearly all of them start with the same question: how many days have you got, and how far can you get? Here are our tried-and-tested routes, organised by duration, so you can pick the one that fits your time and your group — and know which Winkle suits each one.
How to choose your route based on how many days you have
Short routes (3-5 days)
Perfect for a long weekend or a first short holiday in a campervan. Single-region routes, with no rush to get everywhere.
Week-long routes (6-8 days)
The sweet spot for most people: enough time to combine nature, coast and the odd village, without needing more than a week off.
Grand crossings (9 days or more)
Routes that cross several regions or even countries. They need more planning around distances and, usually, the most fully equipped Winkle.

How we plan a route at beWinkle
Planning a campervan route isn't just about picking destinations: it's about deciding how many kilometres a day you want to cover, how much room you leave for improvising, and what time of year you're travelling. We explain how beWinkle's own travellers think it through in How beWinkle travellers choose their route.
Which Winkle to take depending on your route
| Duration | Example route | Recommended Winkle |
|---|---|---|
| 5 days | Picos de Europa | Caribe |
| 7 days | Basque Coast and Landes | Índico |
| 9 days | Algarve | Check the comparison |
| 12 days | Pyrenees to Cabo de Gata | Báltico |

Frequently asked questions
How many kilometres do you cover on average per day on a campervan route?
It depends on each group's pace, but our routes are designed so you spend no more than 2-3 hours a day driving, leaving real time to enjoy each stop.
Is it better to plan the whole route or leave room to improvise?
A middle ground usually works best: fix the key stops and leave 1-2 days with no set plan.
Do I need to book the places where I'll spend the night?
In high season, yes, it's worth booking ahead at busy campsites or motorhome service areas. Check where it's legal to spend the night in a campervan before you set off.
Which route do you recommend for a first campervan trip?
Picos de Europa (5 days) is the easiest one to start with: short, very well signposted and with clear stops.
